Same goes for a son... do you want him to grow up acting like a thug? When you take a good kid and hook him/her up with another kid that has bad habits, does the bad kid generally behave better? Kids start out innocent, but are easily corrupted with bad parenting or exposure to filth.

We are not talking about how mature adults handle exposure to filth. We are talking about protecting our youth from negative influences.

HAHAHAHAHA perfect example of the stereotypical conservative saying 'If it offends me and my children, it must be censored for everyone"

Yes, of course I will censor what my OWN children see. That's my right. And at the same time I will defend 50 cent's right to have a raunchy billboard or whatever, because that's his right. Two different things...and one of the down falls of the republican party in terms of being 'conservative'. Hands off the 1st amendment, if you don't like it don't look (and tell your kids not to).

Of course it has influence.
Don't buy it, don't let your kids buy it.
Same factor that made it popular for kids in the sixties to grow their hair long and engage in "free love"
Peer pressure, for the most part.
Sure....music is a fairly singular art form, however. It's hard to get terribly emotional about, say....well, most other things.

I agree with all of this. It's in the Constitution and we can't pick and choose what we apply.

Exactly!!! If you think taking down 50 Cent posters in the ghetto is going to change anything you should probably get in touch with reality. There is no doubt that rap as a whole influences certain individuals but if you're weak-minded enough to let a fade culture influence you then you're probably in trouble anyway as the world is full of bad influences. You'll fall victim to something.

That's totally untrue and you know it. I cannot take a picture of somebody's "private" and put it on a billboard. Society decides what is good, bad, acceptable, and unacceptable. Are you trying to say that I shouldn't snap a picture of Peter North's ******* and put it on a billboard accross from your house?

Everybody knows that thugs are not positive role models... I'm not for banning posters of thugs, but how about some reasonable self sensorship? For example, should cigarrets or bongs be advertised on signs outside a high school?
Should companies be told not to do it, or should they self-censor themselves?
Should the FCC have to make rules and stiff fines for idiots stupid enough to flash on live family TV, or should we assume that people will act like grown ups?

The distributor was not forced by any republican, extremist liberal, democrat, islamist, or anyone to do it. They got negative feedback from the community and they self-censored themselves. THIS IS HOW THE SYSTEM IS SUPPOSED TO WORK!

There sure are alot of weak minded people then. Maybe nieve is a better word since a large majority are under 18. Kids see these guys making a ton of money made by people who for the most part don't really have any other skills or education and emulate it because it's easy. After all, this is America, why the heck would you spend 4 plus years in college if you see people making millions, who never finished high school. The easy way is the the philosophy of the stereotypical American youth.

I wonder if this guy listens to fitty cent.

Fitty's a Bushie!

Uh oh...
"I think people responded to it the best way they can," 50 told ContactMusic.com. "What Kanye West was saying, I don't know where that came from."

Instead, 50 said, "The New Orleans disaster was meant to happen. It was an act of God."

Why're rappers tryin' to dress all preppie now? Is it a move to gain social credability?

:rotfl:

vs.

Tell me again why rap culture doesn't promote violence.

^^u cant label all "rap" together, gangsta rap promotes violence, hip hop is typically labeled rap but promotes equality and political and social consciousness.

Guys like 50cent and Kanye west are two completely different stories.

f*ck 50cent, he sucks anyway, and I do think his billboards should have been taken down. In Los Angeles, the whole gun thing is a touchy subject, especially in the urban areas where gun death counts are extremely high.
