Bay Area to build major casino?

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...jorurbancasino

SACRAMENTO — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) is preparing to sign new gambling agreements with several Indian tribes, including one that could spawn California's first major urban casino — something the governor has said he opposed.

The Bay Area facility, a short drive from Oakland and San Francisco, could be one of the world's largest gambling halls, as large as five Costcos, with up to 5,000 slot machines, multiple sources said Monday
How do you feel about this?

I posted this earlier in the BAIC forum...

I have mixed emotions about it.

On one hand -- Contra Costa County and the city of San Pablo could *REALLY* use the tax revenue... I just hope it's spent appropriately. The schools in that area are in really bad shape.

On the other -- I grew up near that area and I my parents and in-laws still live there. I don't know how to put this any way other than... I'm afraid it will make the area more "ghetto". I'm guessing that having a mega casino 5 minutes from your house wouldn't increase home values that much . I'm also worried that the amount of crime will rise in the area as well.

It's also a bit sad -- locals to the casino san pablo aren't rich by any means. I can already see the huge amount of locals losing their paychecks every week to the mega casino

Wouldn't it create a ton of jobs and tax revenue? Wouldn't putting it in BFE reduce that?

I dont think so. If it is in CA it is generating tax revenue, and it would have to be in a place with enough people available as staff so that is moot

If customers have to drive real far they will have less customers, which means they will need fewer employees and have lower revenues, and lower revenues means less taxes.
