It's common courtesy/tradition. That's why there's nothing legal to be done, and the democrats have resorted to trying to grill nominees at the confirmation hearings.

Smear agenda? Its the ****ing truth of what he is. Jesus, its not that hard to understand that a 35 year old man is not a child about his point of view. I don't know about you but I would like someone that is NOT racist in the supreme court. Maybe its just me but I like them to be fair and unbiased when it atleast comes to race, if they can't even manage that then ****'em.

-edit-

You know im starting to see a trend with a lot of what is going on. Its like we are not allowed to look at the past actions of individuals to see if they are worthy of something. I thinks thats nuts. If you are about to be appointed to one of the most powerful seats in the USA you'd think finding out the logic about why someone did something as an adult would be ok. But instead it is looked upon as a "smear agenda".

Or do you think stating a racist organization at the age of 35 as a reference you are proud about shows no incline towards how he see's minorities as an adult.

Can you post the content (I'd rather not register)?

The ABA gave this guy a thumbs up, and they are viewed as fair and balanced

If you're excited because you think Alito's confirmation will be a 'slap in the face' to democrats, you'll be waiting forever. It's pretty obvious that he'll be confirmed fairly easily, and it's because he's qualified.

As I posted last week, the issue with BushJr's nominations is in the way he unilateraly selects them (as opposed to every pres before who have used top opposing-party-people to make an informed nomination bilateraly).

You pull the party line so hard I have a hard time differentiating your posts from republican propaganda blogs and the like.

Did you read the previous post? The American People support Alito after the hearings.. doesn't that hold any weight to the Democrats in power?

The Democrats wanted Bush to get people prequalified by the ABA, which Bush has done repeatedly, so do you have issue with another nominee, or are you just toting the party line?

By the way, here is another one:

I understand what you're saying, and it's why I'm not a registered democrat. I agree that most Americans, even democrats, don't have a problem with Alito at this point. I thought that before the polls you posted here. He's a good judge with a solid track record.
That being said, I understand why the dems in gov't are giving him a hard time. They know he'll be confirmed; but the voice of opposition needs to be heard with someone as clearly conservative as he is.

Edward Kennedy and John Kerry got denied by their own. Alito is in for sure unless an act of God prohibits him from getting confirmed.
