I've had bearing failures in other cars and it was more of a grinding sound (metal-on-metal). Does it make the sound if the car is raised and you spin the tire/wheel by hand? Have you checked your brake pads lately? Some pads are equipped with metal tabs that scrape the rotor when worn, acting as a wear indicator.
By the way, what do you drive (model, year)? If we know what model year your car is, or better yet, the vehicle mileage, someone might be able to give a better answer about what the problem might be.

i know its not the brake indicator becuase i heard that on other cars as well. but i havnt lefted on car up yet. so i dont know if it makes that sound when its lefted.
some more info: my 2002 wrx wagon hit a curb in tahoe. so the left transverse link was bent and i changed that. so when brought in to get the alignment done the mechacnic said the right strut is bent. i told him i was going to put in the tein basics so he said to drop that in before the alignment. im getting the basics tomarrow so when i drop it in ill see if the the noise still comes up when the car is lefted.
note that the both front wheels have bad chamber like
this great illustration here ( \ \ )
i have the wrx manual in cd and it says that i have to take out the entire axel to see weither or not it the wheel bearing. is that true? kinda of have a hard time reading all the mechanics acronym. (s.f.j.)

jack the car up and see if you can wiggle the wheel.... if it wiggles, the wheel bearing is out.
but yeah... WW is correct (when isn't he?
) about the type of noise, more of a grinding.. is this what you meant? or is it really a creaking?

when my bearings failed, it produced a ticking noise when the wheels were turned. it's sort of a creaking noise.
i brought it to a bay area Suby shop but they didn't know what it was, so i went to Kevin at Auto HQ. after a 5 minute test drive, he was certain it was the bearings.
i hope that helps you somewhat.

I search the web to find some wheel bearings for the 2003 WRX and this is what I found the "Koyo #K8000-29969" for around $50.00 this is the front bearing. Is this what all of you have used or is there a different band that is better. Also do I have to get any seals or anything else that won’t come with the bearing or is the bearing all I need to order?

The only trick would be pressing the old bearings out and pressing the new ones in.
Make sure it isn't a stupid little rock between the pad and rotor. This will make some grinding noise.
Once you get the race out when changing the bearings, Weld a bead around the inside of the bushing. This will shrink the bushing and make it press out easier. Also, you'll have the bead to press against and the old bushing can be used to press in the new one with out getting stuck. Try it. Fun for kids!
