that is strange, i have never had that happen before to my car and i have done some serious off roading that i should not have.

my brakes have always worked fine even in nasty mud/water/snow/dirt/cinders etc

only thing i don't like is that the abs kicks on too easily while on dirt.

Hmmm... did you do some heavy braking prior to your pedal going to the floor? Sounds like air in the lines (caused by excessive brake heat with regular brake fluid) If you hadn't been hammering it previous to your problem, then you may ALREADY hace had air in the lines. Bleed your brakes, or drain and replace your fluid. If it happens after that, check your lines/brake system for holes where air could creep in. If you can't find anything wrong, you may want to have a Suabru Service dept look at your car. Wash it first, though. Wash it VERY well. Make sure you get the big clumps of mud out of the U-shaped subframe and the crossbars.... Offroading is fun, but dealers no likey warranty service on off-roaded cars.

Sounds like ABS was kicking in. That would be the slight grinding noise. Sounds like the mud was extra muddy.
It feels the same on ice, that's why I know. I assume the car is fine on dry pavement.

Ya...reading that it was immediate that it was the ABS kicking in

Grinding noise is the abs solenoid "pumping" the brakes

The pedal dropping to the floor is the damn abs which sucks in our cars. Its a common occurance.

Hmm. I haven't had the pedal to the floor effect from the ABS, yet. Hope it doesn't happen too soon. Sorry if I led you astray.
