Thumbs up TWR 14 month update

If anyone is wondering about the quality of TWRs, I have been using their 4pot/2pot setup since November of 2003. I have put about 20k on the fronts and about 15K on the rears. In that time I have run at least 12 HPDE's at Laguna Seca, Sears Pt and Thunderhill. All of these tracks are tough on brakes. I run in the Intermediate/Advance group (depends on the club ratings) so I push them pretty hard and depend on them for performance. I am also a dad and use the same car to take my 3 kids to school every day so I depend on their slower speed safety and response as well.

Before each track day I switch from my carbotech bobcats to my carbotech xp 8's and bleed my brakes. At the end of the sessions I swap out the pads and put my street tires on. What I am saying is that I screw around with the pads and calipers a lot.

At this point after 20k miles, the brakes still look great (a little scratched from me nicking them with race wheels and removing pads), they don't seep or leak any fluid, the speed bleeders seal tight, the pads are very quiet - no clicking, clacking, popping, creaking, squealing or rattling and the rotors show very little wear.

How do they perform?
On the street they respond great. They are quiet and powerful, no noise or knock back and plenty of pedal pressure. (However, the Subaru abs issue is still there)

On the track they rock! With the oems I feared the front straight of Laguna Seca and wondered if I could make the hairpin at turn 2. Now, I have the confidence to push much harder. I have not had any fade problems or fluid boil overs. Btw, once you get killer brakes you can use cheaper fluid because they don't heat up as much.

I have the 4pot/2pot setup so I can use my oem 16" wheels and 225/50/16 toyo ra-1 r-compound tires. TWR makes a kit that just barely fits the 16" wheels while still allowing you to use their full size calipers and two-piece rotors.

The install was a piece of cake, if you can get your old calipers off you can put these on. Jerry and Jack of TWR have provided great customer service and made sure I was happy with these brakes.

The last HPDE I ran was at Laguna Seca where there were so few people that the organizers just opened the track and asked everyone to come in each 1/2 hour for a 5 minute rest. I put on over 150 miles of laps with these brakes without any problem.

So if there is a question about quality or performance with TWR, don't worry this is a killer product.

I am happy I bought mine and can now put the brake issue to rest.

Oh yeah, I believe my rotors are 320 mm front and rear, and contrary to popular belief there is no brake bias issues at all.
