Thoughts on TEIN S TECH???

I wanna lower my car a bit so it doesnt look like an SUV....Opinions on the TEIN S TECH springs???? I know the drop seems to be ok by what the website says, but i also care about the quality of the product and how the car will perform compared to stock springs... If this would not be a good, inexpensive way to lower the car what would be, in terms of springs...cant afford coilovers right now....thnx

Its just for looks. There is no performance gain at all (you might even experience some loss because it feels even softer then my stock springs).

I think that the S-Techs have a stiffer spring rate and should have some performance gains. However, it wouldn't be smart to put those springs on stock struts for a long time.

as far as tein goes all there products are of the highest quality i work at a performance subaru shop and we use tein amung other suspention parts i.e cusco prodrive olin stuff like that and by far the tein are the best i use the flex coilover and they are nice there springs are alos high quality. they will make your car look better and help you performance wise by aiding in your cornering ability. if you have any question you can email me at Ryan@finelineimports.net or check out or website www.finelineimports.net good luck with your WRX i luv mine

There is deffenitely a performance gain, it's a better feel because they are higher rate. The car feels more responsive in turns. I had mine on for 8k with stock springs and everything is fine, the car isn't bouncy and the struts are fine. Also you can't beat the drop, it's actually even front/back.

and another thing, the spring rate on the s-techs are very different between the fronts and rears. take a turn hard enough and you'll get a little sideways

say adios to your struts. I had high-techs and they were nice for a few months and then my struts started going bye-bye... and then it felt like my swaybar disappeared because the struts were so bad

I have the Tein S-Techs with the stock struts on my 03 sedan, and I have been running them that way for almost a year and a half now, I haven't had any problems at all. The springs ARE a stiffer spring rate and will improve the handling of the car, but then you will also lose some of the ride quality from the stock springs. But if your like me, I like to feel the road when I am driving, so it doesnt bother me. However, I am now considering going to KYB or KONI struts because I want a bit more stability than the stock struts can provide, yet I dont wanna spend the money for coil overs. Dont get me wrong the stockers work pretty well, and I have by no means been easy on them, but they are a bit too cushy for my taste and "spirited" driving style.

S-techs are too low and too soft for a Subaru. If the were taller OR stiffer, they would work better, but for the money the 4 primary options are Whiteline Controls, Eibach ProKit, Prodrives, or STi pinks. All are very similar in both drop and spring rates. S-Techs are more for the "look" than for performance, although they are somewhat better than stock.

i have a set of S-techs that will fit on my struts, but i'm waiting to install them until after the winter months.

are '03 struts less durable than WRX struts? i bought the S-techs off of someone who had been running them on his WRX and they have a good number of miles on them.(~20k, mostly highway) so i am hesitant to put them on my car.

i read that the RS had the same struts as the WRX in '03, just different spring rates on the stock springs(to the tune of 20-30 softer)

i really want the lowered stance/feel and a stiffer ride... i hope they won't blow out my struts though.

I just installed S-techs, kyb agxs w/ sti tops two days ago. I really like the set up. The first day I tried driving on 2F/3R DAYUM!!!!! It was TOO stiff for my likings, so I changed it to 1F/3R. Adjusting the front made a difference, but rear is still kinda stiff. I might wanna drop the rear to 2, but gotta keep it mind load ie. sub and ppl.

For day-to-day driving, you want to find the softest strut settings that don't let the car oscillate on the freeway and such. Go stiffer when you want to go faster.

I have the Tein S-Techs and they look good, noisey as hell, but they look good and handle well.
