Tein coilovers for a 04 Wagon
i have a 04 wagon and i was wondering which tein coilovers are good. The 4 models they make for wagons are basic, ss, ss-p, and flex. i just want to autoX and track my car nothing big so i dont think i need the flex. right? what is the difference btw these 4 models? tia
major difference... price
basic = no dampening adjustment, 1 way height adjustable, no top mounts
ss = adjustable dampening, 1 way height adjustable, no top mounts
flex = adj damp, 2 way height adj, pillow ball top mounts

I'm guessing SS-P are the tein SS w/ pillow ball upper mounts. Pillow ball uppermounts replace the stock rubber mounts in the car with metal ones. It will improve handling as it removes any flex that the stock rubber mounts had. Also the front uppermounts are probably camber adjustable (not sure about teins). The major drawback of pillow ball mounts are the NVH (noise/vibration/harshness) as it's essentially metal on top of metal. Many have reported a "clunking" noise with Tein coilovers.
dual height adjustability allows you to lower/raise the car with out affecting the dampening. I think both the spring perch and damper length can both be adjusted.
Have you considered any other coilovers? HKS, CUSCO, JIC?

I really dont know much about coilovers but i always thought that tein are good coilovers. bang for the buck. The other coilovers are too expensive to buy new and if i were to get them used, theyd probably cost the same as new tein coilovers. I need help.
if your still going to use your car everyday i'd go with the ss. but to me, the flex is better. its a little stiffer, if you can take it everyday. it doesn't bother me at all because i like taking the turns all the time. best of all, you got the edfc to add and you can be lazy and control the dampening from your seat. but the flex is worth it.
Just Installed
Hi all,
I just had my Flex coilovers installed on my 05 STI. They feel great but I am curious about adjustment tricks to get the best performance. I have EDFC because I am a lazy ***. For the track, I assume you want to go as hard as possible "0" and for streets get softer "10" to "16". Any sugestions on how hard in the back vs the front?
Just curious.

I'm selling because I had an 02 WRX, but I recently traded it for an 05 STi. The 05 has different bolt pattern and the steering knuckle is thicker. So the Teins won't fit. I do know that the Teins I have fit all year WRXs and 04 STis thou. I had them on for about a year, but all the miles put onto it have been highway miles and hardly any bumpy city driving miles. With EDFC, I'm asking $1200. Without, about $950.

I have an 04 Wagon with Flex w/EDFC. They are awesome on the track, but I havent had a chance to auto-x with them. They are pretty stiff on the softest setting and may bother you for daily driving. If you are interested, i can give you a ride in my car. I'm located in south san jose
