Question stupid question- what is pot?

What does the "POT" mean that comes after the number of pistons in a caliper. Does it mean a fixed caliper or what?

pot is short for piston. four pots = four pistons.

i think it got started by the fact that the space for the pistons in the caliper look like little pots, but i could be wrong.
