I don't think the rust is anything to worry about.... I was at a local dealer a few weeks ago and even the new Subarus on the lot had rusty rotors...

Rotors are bare untreated steel... they will rust instantly with the slightest contact with water. Take a close look at your rotors next time you wash your car. Fortunately, the rust you see is very very thinly layered on the surface, and is brushed away the next time you use the brakes. It's perfectly normal. As for saying they looked worn, he was probably just trying to drum up some business.

It's also not uncommon for the first 10k miles for a groove to develop in your rotors. It goes away eventually, and is normal...
