Stock brakes fadding fast?
First the facts
Car was bought Sept 1, 2002 and just turned 3000 miles. Obviously I don't drive very much and when I do drive it is a good mix between city and highway. The car sits outside (I live in Chicagoland area) so this may have a small effect on my question. I was told by the mechanic that changed my oil that my brakes are looking very worn for not being driven that much and that I already have "rust" spots on the rotors. I don't think this is normal. Any suggestions?

Rotors are bare untreated steel... they will rust instantly with the slightest contact with water. Take a close look at your rotors next time you wash your car. Fortunately, the rust you see is very very thinly layered on the surface, and is brushed away the next time you use the brakes. It's perfectly normal. As for saying they looked worn, he was probably just trying to drum up some business.
