Talking STI susp. in and review

OK guys and gals...it's finally here and in!

My 02 WRX sedan got a treatment of STI takeoff 40mm inverted struts and cusco pillowball mounts up front. All I can say is best mod I've done yet! It's night and day handling, makes even the ****ty RE92's feel like RA1's! Can't wait to throw on my 17's again this week with some decent tires! I let a few guys take her out the other night after we got done and they all LOVE the feel and handling ability compared to stock and mild suspension mods. I also have the Whiteline rear sway installed on medium (22mm?). As far as comfortability and road noise...if they are noisy due to the pillowballs I dont hear them over my intake and exhaust anyways! I LOVE THEM!

I give them 2 thumbs up for sure! Especially for under that $1200 range! Thanks Gruppe-S for awesome service

Right on! STI struts are on my list. I don't want a super stiff ride(from coil overs) for the 98% "normal" driving I do.
Are the 40mm struts the standard ones or the adjustable ones?

These are just STI takeoffs 40 mm inverted NON-adjustable...Mine ride a bit bumpier with those Cusco pillowball mounts but DAMN I love the feel...it's like I have no power steering...I can feel every curve and bump I want to but forget about the potholes here in MI cuz the spring/strut combo are so well mated I don't feel it. Anyways...I wanted adjustability too, but honestly...WHO CARES! These are better than half the other setups I've riddin in like KYB or Koni's with springs or coilover sleeves. It's like DMS but cheaper and non-adjustable IMO lol. I love them, only worry is how long they'll last, but at 40mm...I doubt they're short lived!

Did you get just the struts or did you also get the springs? Did you just do the front and leave the rear stock? Is it necessary to change the strut tops when going to the STi setup or can you keep the stock WRX tops?
Thanks.

OK...I got STI struts AND springs...I used the OEM USDM WRX rear tophats/mounts on the rear. I put on the Cusco pillowball mounts on the front. I want to get STI rear tophats eventually though. You can totally keep the OEM tops for front or rear tho...it just makes it stiffer to replace them.

Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear that you like the setup. That's the suspension that I plan on going with whenever I get the money. Where did you get it from? Did you install it yourself? Was it difficult?
Sorry for all the questions. I'm just curious.
Thanks.

No prob man! I installed them with a few of my buds taking turns and helping out as we were just relaxin with a case of beer in a garage. It took about 4 or 5 hours even with BSing so much. It could take around 3 or 4 hours though. I bought them from Gruppe-S, they might not be listed but if you email or call them they can let you know when they will get another shipment in. As far as difficulty, just remember spring compressors to allow you to get the tophats on/off easily from the strut, mark off the OEM camber on the front with a nail or something by scratching from mounting bracket to strut, and get the torque specs on as much as you can, Oh yeah and remember to loosen the rear struts from the tophats B4 you take them off the car so it's easier.
