Just the calipers? I would guess close to 10lbs each for the fronts. Maybe 4lbs each for the rears.

 

You do need quite a few other parts to make these calipers work on a usdm car.

Hmmmm I guess I should have been more specific. Yes, if you also have the pads+rotors, the FRONTS bolt right up. The rears are an entirely different matter.

Can we see a pic of the rears BAD WRX?

If all you have installed is the front set, you may have significantly upset the overall braking bias of the vehicle. Athough since I dont have the piston diameters of the caliper and the pad coefficent of friction I cant be sure. The WRX comes stock with an excessive front bias.

Well with that is true - sort of.

1. There is no inherent heat need for rotors larger than stock on the rear. However, bias has to be considered as well.

2. It is not at all recommended for a rear upgrade to accompany the Stoptech fronts like Gary runs. The Stoptech fronts have a 10% drop in front brake torque to better utilize the stock rear brakes.

The STi Brembos are an untried resource. They could in fact impart more torque than the stock front 2pots, thereby driving an already overly-front-biased system, even more to the front. This would decrease the overall braking performance of the car.

So a rear upgrade(larger rear rotor) can be viewed in two ways: heat capacity and braking torque. You dont need a rear upgrade for heat reasons, but in your case, you may need a rear upgrade to balance against your front upgrade to maintain stock(or better yet, idealized) bias.

For instance on a stock WRX, the best way to put you in a better f to r bias range is to leave the fronts alone and upgrade the rears to the "H6" rotors. If you were not tracking a WRX, this is the most logical brake upgrade.

If you need a larger front rotor for heat reasons, how it will affect overall bias needs to be factored in. The Stoptech kit is an off-the-shelf solution employing larger rotors and better calipers, that should NOT be coupled with a rear upgrade in its current incarnation. If Stoptech were to up the caliper piston sizes, such that overall torque were near the stock 2 pots, a rear upgrade would then be favorable.

so did anyone actually did the rear break swap yet? i was looking into getting the sti brakes. and also, would the stock wheels fit the sti breaks or it would only fit in 17 inch or larger wheels?

 

Few wheels fit over the STi brakes, the fronts are some of the largest calipers avilable for the Subarus. 17" wheel diameter is gonna be a minimum and even 18" wheels dont guarantee fitment.

18's aren't needed. But most 17's won't fit. Obviously any wheels that fit the STI fit, but if you see a picture of a wheel you know on an STI, make sure what size and offset the wheel is in the picture. www.spdusa.com sells some wheels that fit the STI Brembo's. Prodrive GC-07C's and Rota SDR's will fit.

[Edit] To be clear. 18's won't help. 17 is minimum diameter of the wheel. Spoke clearence is everything, especially close to the HUB. The STi Brembo's are a big caliper to be sure, but the main issue is how far they stick out and how close to the hub they mount. The STI rotor is smaller than the 328 and 332 rotor found in most BBKs so the caliper mounts closer to the hub meaning the spokes have to be far from the hub as close to the hub as possible. Few wheels achieve this.

[Edit2] Mike Shields is or has made an adapter so the rear rotors will fit with the US spec rear axle/parking brake assembly. This really simplifies installing the STI Brembo rear brakes. Without that you need axles, rear end and lots of other fun.
