did you get an alignment done after installing the new springs? most handling issues related to new springs come down to that.

also, the WRX rack seems to have quite a bit of play in it, as well as a large degree of play in the bushings. mine does this on stock springs, even with aftermarket steering rack bushings (noltecs).

i think that a lot of people here have probably experienced this problem, but you might do a search to be sure if you haven't yet.

someone please correct me if i'm wrong, and we're the only two with this issue (mine only happens somtimes).

did this start right after the spring install, or did you notice it before?

That little bit of steering wheel play is there for high speed stability. You wouldn't want to accidentally add 2 degrees of steering input at 130+ mph reaching for the headlight switch or something. Bad stuff. So, you gotta deal with just a little bit of numbness at low speeds.
Did the tech notice that the wheel was crooked, or that there was a little play?

he noticed that when making a right turn and then letting go of the wheel the steering wheel would stay turned but when making a left turn it would go back to center.

I had the behavior on my 03 WRX.

Hard left turn, steering on center.
Hard right, steering on tilted to right.

Got alignment done.

Hard left turn, steering is tilted to left.
Hard right turn, steering on center.

Installed whiteline steering bushings. Problem solved. Always centered. Steering is much more responsive too. Stock bushings, the steering response felt like my old 95 Corolla. Now it feels more like a sports car.

Check nasioc.com and search for "memory steer" or "steering bushing". I wish I saw those articles before I wasted my money on the alignment.

Some say even with the upgraded bushings, the problems still exist, but luckily it worked for me. For $25, it's worth a try. Installing was a pain though.

i upgraded the steering rack bushings, but the problem didn't go away until i instaled my STi struts, springs and top hats. i think it was the top hats that made the differance, after the alignment i had done the steering wheel is dead on all the time now.
