Is this a rip off?
i've got some new springs and a sway bar that need install (i'd install the swaybar myself, but it needs to be taken out anyway (or so they say) to put the springs in.
anyways, the subaru dealership said it'd be around 1100 for everything. after i got my breath back, i called a local service place (Fuller's) which also tends to overcharge and they said it would be around 500 for everything. are there any places that would charge less, or is this a typical install fee?

do it yourself. It should take you an hour and a half to do the first spring, and a half hour to do each other one. rent a spring compressor from a car parts place. You can do the springs w/o removing the swaybar and vice-versa. You will need a front end alignment when you finish.
you should be able to get springs installed for no more than 200.
sway bars do not need to be taken out when putting springs in. they are seperate from each other.

You should be able to have both of those services done for much less than you were quoted. I highly recommend looking at scoobymods.com as it is an invaluable resource for all things subie tuning. With a little bit of researching, a few hand tools, and a little bit of confidance you'll be fine on your own and have a whole lot more money to spend on other mods. ;-)
If you get charged more than 300 bucks you are getting ripped off. I got springs, front and rear strut braces, and sways done for 225. Then I paid 70 for the alignment. This was at my local suby dealer too.
