Have you already pulled the wheel off to check the caliper mounting bolts? You can see them from underneath the car but it's easier to look from above when the wheels are off. Check the condition of the pads at the same time.

Are your rear brake components all stock (replacement rotors, larger than stock rear rotors, non-factory pads)?

i have stock brakes... and yes i pulled the wheel off. i just replaced the rear brake pads last week because i thought that was the problem, turns out the part closest to the rotor on the bracket for the caliper is actually touching the rotor. not sure how it started to happen.

I'm looking at pics of the bracket from when I last worked on my rear brakes on my MY02 WRX. The caliper bracket is a pretty rigid piece of cast iron or steel. If the bracket is actually making contact with the outer edge of the rotor, I think that either the two mounting screws that secure the bracket to the backing plate flange are either loose or cross-threaded, or somehow the bracket itself has become bent.

I don't have a pic that shows the normal gap between the bracket and rotor edge but you can see that the bracket maintains an even gap to the outside of the parking brake drum integrated into the rear rotor.

Since you haven't replaced your rear rotors, it somehow points to an installation problem. I wish I could see the actual parts up close with the wheel off, including mounting screws holding the bracket to the flange and screws holding the floating caliper to the bracket (although these shouldn't matter since the caliper body isn't making rotor contact).
