Out of everything I've put on my car, this is the ONE thing I had a mechanic install. What model/year subaru do you have? The older imprezas have a notorious problem with the rear wheel bearings- and if one goes out-you need to make sure you get the new recommended sealed-style bearing... not just the replacement part #- My mecahnic actually had recieved a service bulletin from SOA which detailed the new procedure for replacement, which my local delaership didn't even know about yet. I had the impression you needed a press or something to do it- maybe not- can someone else chime in ?

A quick google search, and I found it:
http://www.endwrench.com/current/Cur...s/03-50-02.pdf
it applies to impreza, legacy, and forester.

so, if you have the old-style caged bearing, It looks like you will need a press to get it out.

Scroll to the bottom. The manual you need is about $50, will tell you everything you need to know.

Is this not worth fixing? When my wheel bearing was blown, it sounded like my car was falling apart, I dunno bout you. I know that sounds steep, but how would you go about getting the car to them to press the bearings out? Wouldn't you have to pay to tow it? So, are both sides done for? what model/year car do you have? I've got the step-by-step instructions- with all of the appropriate new model #'s (many are model-specific)

I pulled out my paperwork file, and my mechanic charged me $153.60 in labor to install the 112.70 in parts, which I picked up from the dealership. It looks like the quote you got was with parts... ask how much it would be if you supplied the parts.
