Hello- I have a 02 WRX with 80,000 ,iles on the clock and I recently developed a clunk in the steering that seems to be coming from the Rack where the input shaft goes into the rack. I have searched but found very few "problem" rack threads.

My question is this....Do I have any options other then a remaned WRX Rack or a "Rally rack"?

I have head that a 04STI rack will bolt in but there seems to be some confusion as towether it is a quicker or better part.

Any info is appreciated

Could be a torn CV boot.

Anyway, the 04 STi is not too tough of a swap and is slightly quicker then regular WRX. Just a little.

Thanks for the reply....I spent about an hour under the car with a buddy turning the wheel back and fourth and there is a definate clunk during the transition left to right in the ring and pinion gears. I don't feel much slop but the noise seemed to get louder and more pronounced after a recent track day.

When you say the 04 STi is not too tough of a swap, does that mean it is not a bolt in affair? How much modification is required?

Does anyone have a used rack for sale? WRX or 04 STi
