Nagging Noise in 02 WRX Wagon
It doesn't happen everytime, but I can predict when it is going to happen with 90% accuracy.
The noise is like someone knocking on a wooden desk. It seems to be coming from the passenger side rear wheel. It happens not so much going over bumps, but coming off of them. In other words, it happens when the rear goes over quick dips. It has even happened if I accelerate too quickly from a dead stop, or sometimes if I or a passenger adjusts their position in a front seat.
I have emptied EVERYTHING out of the back and it still makes the noise. I have had it back to 2 different dealerships (in 2 states no less) a total of 5 times and it hasn't been resolved. The mechanics indicate that they can replicate the noise but can't pinpoint it. Of course, they say it's not critical so I shouldn't worry about it. But it is fricking annoying!! The mechanics have cleaned and greased the suspension and have even replaced the right rear strut, but no change.
Has anyone experienced this in the wagon? The end of my warranty is quickly approaching and I just can't let it go. Any suggestions?

I have the same freaking noise coming from my 02 OBS!
I started to hear it about a week after I put in 20mm rear swaybars. I've tighting all the bolts down, and its still making the same noise from the rear passenger wheel area. Its driving me nuts, I hear it when I go over bumps only though.

A problem consistant across the board.????Believe it or not my wife's 01 Land Rover use to do the same thing. Take a hard corner, or a severe bump and the ping noise would ring through the car. It turns out that there was a failure in one of the front springs. Sounds strange, but the construction of that one spring had a defect. Got it replaced and problem solved.
