Lowering Springs w/ stock struts
Hi, I am currently in the market for either Cobb or Prodrive lowering springs for my 2004 WRX sedan . I've done research on both, and they claim to work with stock struts.
Also I've heard problems with 03-04 stock struts blowing out at a low mileage. And also people who have these springs installed on their stock 2006 struts tend to love the ride. Hopefully I can expect the same.....
So my question is, would you recommend mating either of these springs with my stock struts? How long would I expect my struts to hold up?
Anyone out there that owns a 2004 wrx have first hand experience with the spring w/ stock strut combo?

I know Cobb claims their springs work well with the oe struts but I really doubt they will. IMO, since the Cobb's drop the front 2" they will blow the fronts and screw up the front geometry.
What's most important to you? Looks, performance or comfort?

I've seen Prodrive's and they look great but I'd guess the Cobb's will look better since the front has a more drastic drop. I also think the Prodrive's will be better performance wise and they will definitely be a lot easier on the oe struts. I just installed the cobb stage 2 suspension and the springs look great and feel like stock on a fairly level road. If you actually hit a large hole or bump then you will definately feel the pain. but overall I love them. I not sure about the strut part of the question, but will find out with time (im on stock struts myself).
Im almost 7500k on my stock struts with the cobbs. Capamerica is right on with the pot holes. My Struts make a little bit of noise but not much. Dont buy the prodrives you wont be happy I hardly noticed any drop at all. Dont be like me and buy the prodrives and not like them only to turn around and buy the cobbs, add installation cost cause Im a noob I could have afforded coilovers by now.

How many miles are currently on the struts? I ran Sprint Extreme springs, which as far as I know hove the lowest drop around. Other than my struts being too soft for auto-x'n, I loved the setup. Springs are still the cheapest way to get a drop. Unless you plan to race, they are perfectly fine for the street. Remember, while coiloves are the best way to adjust suspension parameters, they are ALL harsh on the street.

You should do it the right way. Just get coilovers. The cost of new struts and springs is gonna be close. That way you can adjust the ride height whenever. (especially if you drive in snow!)

I had a set of STi pink springs on my 06. The ride was awesome. now i have a set of Zeal coilovers and they are a little stiff, but not to bad on the street, plus I can set them up for auto-x in seconds. I think the extra amount you pay for the coilovers is well worth is and if you dont go that route, I have heard good things about cobb. Just make sure you get an alignment after you install them.
I have Whiteline Ground Control springs over stock 02 struts, and after 20,000 miles (including some 600-800 miles of gravel road excursions and rutted dirt roads) there are no signs of failure in the stock struts. The GC springs lower 3/4" in the front and 1" in the rear, just enough to make changing the oil a pain.
