L/F wheel making clicking sound

When I turn right, and only when I turn right, there is a constant clicking sound coming from vicinity my L/F suspension. When I looked at it, I see that my ball joint boot on my control arm has a tear. Would this be the cause for the clicking?

What damage might I have already caused?

How do I swap in a new ball joint and boot?

Attached is a picture of the tear (sort've hard to see)

Gracias

gpatmac ... I'll bet it is the CV joint

Out of curiosity, is your car lowered? How many miles?

I haven't tried it while just standing still, although I did put the car up on 4 jacks and turn it. That didn't tell me anything since there was no weight on the wheels.

I'll have to try that. I do know that the ball joint boot is cracked so the ball joint itself will more than likely need to be switched out. I really don't think that has anything to do with that clicking, though. I think you both are right about that CV. The bad news is that the right side just started doing it this evening.

Yeah, the car is lowered. I had it slammed for probably 1000 miles, but now it's just mildly lowered. The car has 13k on it.

I just installed a 6mt into it. And I just put Stoptechs up front. Really, I doubt that either one of those systems are where the clicking is coming from, but it does make the troubleshooting a little more difficult.

As far as those 2 installs go, the only thing that's in the back of my mind is that the front half-shafts move around a little bit inside of the front diff. But again, I think that it's normal.

Thanks for your responses.

The reason I asked about being lowered is that I heard recently from MACH V that many of their customers with lowered cars have CV joint failures.

So, lowered = CV joint failure ... at least on the WRX?!?

Update:

I took off the wheel today in order to inspect. Still saw no signs that would point to anything being amiss, but ironically, when I put it back on, the clicking went away...at least for about an hour. It's back but less so than before.

I'm still observing, and I'm gonna take it down to the service dept. (sub-sonic) and see what he tells me.
