I had planned on installing them myself. I know inserts take more time and require more work, though I'm not 100% sure how much more work they are. Either way, I'll be doing either the gr-2's or the konis with a friend who is a lot more mechanically inclined than I am. Are there any good writeups out there on the install process for the inserts?

The only real experience I've had working with suspension has been on a 79 datsun 280zx... I sort of assumed that inserts would be something like that... not that you're probably familiar with a 79 datsun lol.

Well I just looked at some writeups for other cars... and it looks pretty similar actually to what I'm used to. Only differences are that you have to drill a hole in the bottom of the housing and you have to cut the old strut out (in a z there's a lid that just unscrews that lets you slide the strut out).

The install isn't difficult at all, just time consuming.

I love the old Z's. My first car was a 78 and I hope to get another one some day. Hopefully another 78 or if I'm lucky enough maybe a 76 260.

the 260z was only made in the year 1975 (in the US atleast), the 76 is a 280z also. The 260z is a quirky car, half of them are more like the 240z and half are more like the 280z and all of them are atleast partially both lol. The friend who is going to be helping me with the install has a 260z and this looks like it will take us a good chunk of a weekend, but it should be worth it. I guess I'll just hold out for the koni's instead of settling for the gr-2's.

Wow I never got a notification telling me you replied.

I have no experience with the KYB's but according to what I've read holding out would be a good idea.

Thanks for setting me straight about the 260z's. I was big into the Z's around 14 years ago and it looks like my knowledge is getting a bit rusty. There was a guy that had a junk yard full of Z's around 20 miles from my house but I'm not sure if he's still around or not. I might have to make a trip out there to see if he's still around.

What springs do you plan on running?
