JDM struts?

Does anyone recognize these part numbers? They are from some red inverted struts for the GC8, which I am starting to think are JDM items. It would be nice to know for sure!

20311FA900
20311FA910
20360FA900
20360FA910

Thanks.

No mate, I might be able to get more info from him.
I'm in Taiwan, these struts were oem fitment on some limited-edition STi version GC8, but they were just sold as that, no mention of WRX, no mention of version number X, nothing but "STi limited edition"...
I got some bare bones from a site in Japan, just says they are STi, and not Type-RA, but beyond that no data. I guess they must be alright 'cos they're red and inverted, and I don't think they put out any garbage like that, but I'm interested to know what springs they were designed for...

I actually have the springs that they are designed for. Similar struts were sold on Ebay by someone who didn't really know what he had. I tried to get them, but I didn't bid in time. However, I did manage to get the springs that he was selling separately (the ones originally purchaced in a strut/spring package).

Interesting. Would you know anything more about the struts? Do you have an idea what the original spring rates were? The set I have bought have some aftermarket springs on them, but the vendor also has the originals, and I might take those off him too...

There are a few models (all manufactured by subaru) that look similar, I believe. To tell the truth, I'm still trying to verify exactly what kind of springs they are. Do the struts look like this?

If these look like what you have, and you end up getting the springs, could you tell me what color the dots on the springs are (or take a pic)? and/or the part #'s? I'd sure like to know exactly what I have. Thanks

AFAIK, all the upside units (except for the height adjustable ones) were made by KYB. Mine look identical, except they are red and yours look a little orange. Could be the photo though. Part numbers are as listed in 1st post.
The springs that came on the car from the factory are black and have one blue and one grey paint splotch on both the fronts and rears. Sorry, but I have no idea what the part numbers are. There were part numbers of springs listed for these struts for the JDM, but I don't know if they are what I have here.
I ended up fitting some aftermarket springs instead as the stockers seemed a bit soft for these struts.

edit:
I came up some part numbers for you from this site in Japan. These are what would have been fitted to my struts in Japan.

20330FA110 front spring for car with a/c
20380FA400 rear spring

Thanks alot for the part #'s... the color code on my springs is the same, so I think we're dealing with the same model. And yeah, I was wrong about the manufactured by subaru thing... more like manufactured by KYB for Subaru. So, have you found out what they're called? My guesses were STi Ver4/Ver5 or RA. I'm still mad that I didn't get the struts also (they went for ~$230) Oh well.

A new question: Did KYB manufacture all of the STi struts, or did FHI do some also?

I thought the paint code was the same, after looking at it again, one of the dots on the front spring is more of a purple color.

So are these different?

Well, we have at least one spring in common anyway

That's about what I paid for mine, along with the oe springs, and another set of Vogtland springs. Those reddish/orangey struts probably were the ver5/6 struts. Mine are not and this is confirmed by Brian at Exeter Subaru (thanks Brian!)

Seems like the majority of Subaru's shocks have been developed with KYB, though there are some STi tarmac struts that are marked as made by Showa... I don't think FHI make any shocks themselves.

Yeah, the one on the left is the same blue as mine, the right one looks purple.

It's frustrating because we know that residing on the hard drive of some mid-level tech at Subaru is an Excel file with the color codes and part numbers cross-referenced for the whole Impreza series from 1993. Somebody needs to take that guy out to karaoke for a few Kirins and hostess gropings and get that bloody file!

Oh, the other thing I can tell you about the spring with the blue and grey splotches is that they were also paired (here in Taiwan anyway) with rightsideup struts that I believe were JDM WRX items. They are perhaps 2cm shorter than the L springs and the wire is maybe 0.8~1.0mm thicker. The consensus among owners here is that they are too soft for serious use, and certainly too soft for use with the inverted struts, considering their stiction.
Sorry.

I ended up installing those springs along with new KYB GR2 struts on my 98 wagon. The ride seems to be quite improved over stock, especially in the corners . I was originally wondering if wagon-specific springs would be necessary, but it turned out fine when everything was done. Pics are here: https://www.i-club.com/forums/showth...threadid=56854

Does anyone else out there have any information on the spring color codes (or the struts originally posted ) ??? Please help!

Ah yes, I forgot you have an OBS. Of course those springs would be better for road use than the 'on stilts' stockers
That blue/grey spring should be a good match for the GR2. You can probably put a moderate sized swaybar in back and call it good.
