Well, I guess it depends on what you want to do. If all you care about is height adjustability, like if you show a lot, then they're probably fine. If you're concerned about actual handling, you probably want to get something with adjustable damping settings. Some Tein Super Streets are probably the cheapest true coilovers you'll find with that capability.
Personally, I'd say Cusco Zero 2Rs or Zeal Function B6s

GC's are the best sleeve type coilovers that are generally available. If installed properly, they are great. The Skunk's are a bad copy of them.
They offer an almost unlimited range of spring lengths and rates For the price, they are hard to beat.
They have an EXTENSIVE racing background, and I don't think they give a rats *** about shows.

You can't 'slam' with the AGX's....if you try to lower more than 1.5" they won't last long, and KYB won't warranty them(so they say) if used too low.
If you go with GC's, go a little softer than what is 'recommended' by them or you may need a kidney belt...those guys are racers and like a STIFF suspension.....275F/250R would be about right for an area where streets are good. Getting the lengths right is up to you....you would have to call them and figure that one out.

Somebody sells Konis with GC coilovers installed.
GC is very, very well-made stuff.
All high-quality billet-machined stuff, and they have mucho experience.
They even sell super-expensive multi-adjustable racing coilovers with crazy dampers...

personally I hate that style of suspension. You'd be better off with just a nice spring and strut combo and leave it alone. But I guess if you want adjustability an don't want full blown coil overs GC is probably your best bet. They are pretty much pioneers in that set up. You could also go with Tien I think.
And yeah...if you get them you will need a high performance strut designed for lowering springs. Or you will have worse handling that you started with...especially after about 5 months when your struts blow.
I come from Honda's so I've been around this kind of stuff plenty.
Oh....and the Zeal B6...didn't know they had them for WRX.....have to see if they have them for 04...I had em on my civic....great set up for the money. Flossy too.
but I am a fan of keeping it simple...quality strut/quality spring...
with my wrx I don't want to go too low so I'll probably be picking up the prodrives when they get released next month.

You DON'T have to lower anything with GC's...that is one of the best things about them....you can get ANY(almost) length and ANY(almost) rate spring for just about ANY purpose.
My next setup is going to include them, no doubt...
