EBC Redstuff pads

Hello all,
I just installed (after my stock pads wore down) EBC Redstuff rear pads. I had already installed EBC Greenstuff on the front and wanted to go more agressive. I will eventually replace the fronts with Redstuff as well. Here is the problem - they make a sh*tload of noise. Under hard breaking, they are fine = perform great but under light breaking (parking garage stuff) they squeel like a ****! Is this because I have Green on the front and Red on the rear? Any suggestions on how to make these sound better or do more agressive pads = more noise?

Thanks

your install is probably done wrong. I had red stuff front/rear for a while on a WRX and there was no noise really. never any squeeling - its hard to tell what you have done wrong, have you followed a book or smth?

Did you keep the stock shims and backing plates? If so, add some anti-squeal between the plates. If you didn't install the pads with the shims/plates, then that's why it's making noise.

I have the redstuff in my 4-pots. I used the shim supplied with the pads that you had to stick to the back of the pad after peeling off the paper from the shim. At first it was OK then they started to squeel like crazy. I took everything apart cleaned up stuff, re greased the pins and used some permetex blue goo brake quiet on the back. That helped make the noise stop. It's almost a half year later and they are still fine.

I did things like Peaty - used the shims supplied with the pads. I can't imagine how I installed them wrong, I have done this 4 times now and never squeeling on the rears (previous 3 times have been with the EBC Greeen pads). I will try pulling it apart and regreasing.

The only thing I can think is that I cleaned stuff up too good and removed the lubrication. Peaty, where did you get the blue goo brake quiet? Is this an autozone item or special order?

I bought them through PDX Tuning and they are helping me out bigtime by letting me try a set of Frodo's to see if it goes away.

Thanks guys

you can get the brake quiet at any auto store, it comes in a big bottle or a couple small one use application plastic tube type things. Permatex (SP?) is what I used.

That permatex blue brake quiet stuff is nasty, aerosol or not, and god forbid that it ever gets on your piston boots, over time it will cement to them, and when you try to scrape it off, you'll tear the boot.

See if you can get away with just some anti-sieze and the original shims, and make sure to lube up the pad retention pin contact surfaces, and the slots for the backing plates where they contact the guides of the caliper with the anti-sieze as well, and you should be fine.

You apply the brake quiet on the back of the pads on your work bench and let it dry, once it's dry it sticks to the pad back. I've used it countless times an never had it get on anything else myself. You do need to let sit for a while. It will turn from a bright blue to a dull clearish blue when dry.

Yeah brake quiet would be the only way to go, with aggressive pads, they are so hard that without brake quiet it is just problems, since they are only supposed to be used under hard braking, such as on the track.

Cheers,
