Are drilled and slotted rotors worth buying? WRX2003

I've had some performance modifications with power and now I'm looking for some stopping power. I'm still running on the WRX's stock sixteens and I'm waiting a while to get some Volk rims since they cost a fortune. I was wondering if anyone who had bought the Drilled and Slotted Rotors would recomend them. I know they enhance breaking and keep the brakes from overheating but I would like to know if it is really worth the $250 to get them. Any comments would be appreciated.

Just buying slotted or drilled rotors alone will not do anything for your braking. Unless you NEED or want the bling factor of a big brake kit just by replacing the brake pads, stainless steel brake lines and using good fluid will make your car stop and feel much better.

Drilled rotors are more prone to cracking, drilled and slotted are more prone, yet. Most drilled rotors are NOT recommended for the track.
I have slotted, front and back, and that is one of the small bits of bling I allow myself for my car...subtle.

I also said this in the follow thread:

So I agree with 1fastGC. You'd want strength and durability at track events. Sav yer $.

FYI - there are studies that claim slotted/drilled are a waste of money. My personal take is its not as big a benefit as many believe. Its quite the visual modification so lots of people will do it first over say putting in SS lines. For me, slotted/drilled rotors would be the last thing I do. I believe it ups efficiency (in terms of heat dispersion) but not to a degree that matches the cost of new rotors. Were I to change rotors, it would be for strength and durability."

When it comes to brake fade on my wagon, I noticed a nice improvement from one track day to the next by adding slotted rotors. I got the DBA's. The driving force behind this was that I'd scored my rotors at the previous track day and needed new ones anyway, but the slotted ones were a definite improvement over stock.

Sti Brembo and DBA rotors are vented differently than the stock WRX rotors, IIRC. Conventional rotors use cast vanes to channel air flow through the rotors, whereas the DBA and Brembo rotors use a segmented vane design (DBA calls it 'kangaroo paw') which is supposed to help out a bit more in the cooling department. Every little bit helps, I suppose.

To help improve braking on my rex, I took this route:
-changed the brake fluid (Motul RBF 600)
-changed the lines (steel braided lines)
-changed the front pads
-changed the rotors (DBA slotted)
Big difference in pedal feel and braking overall. With all that power the WRX is capable of (not to mention the weight of the car), upgrading the brakes should be on top of your list. Out of all four components of the upgrade I did, IMO the lines, brake fluid and pads were the most effective. Don't get me wrong, the slotted rotors are great, but if you only had $300, get the lines, fluid and pads first.

Pretty much answered in the second post by Akiata. The other mods make a much more noticeable difference.

Stay with slotted or bigger.
Drilled rotors are fine on stock cars but when you start upgrading power then you need something heavy duty.
S/Steel lines and Motul RBF600 will make a difference too.
