'06 STi's need special sway bar mounts

I'm a little confused/annoyed right now and wanted to see if anyone else on here has had problems with COBB Tuning giving them the bait and switch on their sway bars for the STi.

I placed an order last week and got an email today from Justin saying:

"We notice that you ordered a set of WRX sway bars for your STi. The STi requires the Billet Slider Mounts to fit the STi due to the new charcoal canister. The STi sway bar package is $450 as opposed to the $350 WRX set.

Let me know if you would like to continue with the order for the STi sway bar kit."

At first I thought I must have messed up and ordered the wrong thing but upon going to their website and looking at the STi suspension page it clearly says "Lightweight Tubular Sway Bar Kit (Front and Rear) 2004-05 STI $350" I've attached a screen capture of the page as well notice the URL says "sti" in it. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm wondering if it's an 04-05 vs 06 thing? I was told there shouldn't be any difference for the sway bars between these model years.

At $450 for the set I'm starting to thing the Cusco's might be a better deal, and at this point I'm not exactly harboring any warm fuzzy's about COBB.

Did you reply to them and ask them about the error? And do you have an '05 or '06? Maybe there is something different on the '06s, I really don't know. I'd go back to them first though.

Yep and I just got a reply back from them:

"Understandable....the bars are the same....its the slider mount that is needed to keep the correct angles on the bar and keep anything from interfering with the charcoal canister. This is a new configuration of the 06's....which is why I haven't updated the website to include the 06's just yet.....I have had it set up that way to have 06 owners call in to verify fitment. It really wasn't an official 06 STi kit until recently. I really do need to update that STi page though. My apologies for the confusion. "

I think this is a satisfactory answer, but I'm still a little annoyed there wasn't more info on their website to begin with.

That seems reasonable. I've noticed that sometimes new model year info for aftermarket parts takes a while to hit the websites and such.

Now that the price is putting you in to Cusco territory, you should call them and see if they require any additional hardware for the '06 models that might bump up their costs too.

I use to have cusco rear sway bar on my car which is a 02 wrx, and it was great. Later on i got a hold of a cobb front sway bar. So i then decided to sell the cusco rear sway bar b/c my rear sway bar mount broke and i wanted to match the bars. So I opted for the cobb one b/c they give you a new mounts, plus i wanted to match the bars. Boi the Cobb bar is so much better. alot stiffer than the cusco one. they definitely over rate the cusco bar. I love it.

^^ nice recco. I have the Cusco bar on my '05 wagon right now and have been happy with it. I haven't run any of the Cobb suspension stuff.

I wouldn't confuse "stiffer" with "better." Both bars and their associated hardware are high quality.
