clueless on strut tower brace.
I am looking into strut towers braces for my MY99 GM6. I thought I had it figured out until I started to study. Is a brace the same as a swaybar? are FHI bars a Fuji Heavy product? Do they have to be adjustable? Why the hell dont I see any bars anywhere on my car, even though people taljk about the stock ones all the time? I read the swaybar thread, and I understand what the purpose is, but little else. Suggestions on what to get would be helpful as well, as I put the ol' stop order on ALOT of parts because of my lacking knowledge.
Strut tower brace is a bar that bolts in from shock tower to shock tower under the hood. It will serve to stiffen the body structure somewhat, and generally is thought to sharpen up handling a bit.
Sway bars are very much different, they are bars attached to points on the suspension under the car that reduce body roll, or lean, when cornering. You will feel a much bigger difference in handling by putting in bigger sway bars (front and rear).
Neither of these items HAS to be adjustable, especially the shock tower brace. Nothing to adjust for there, really. Aftermarket swaybars for Subarus are typically adjustable, so you can make them really stiff or just plain stiff.
Need to know what you want to accomplish handlingwise before advice as to what to buy can be given.
Cheers,

P.S., what model is a GM6?

A stiffer suspension will slightly hinder your snow traction or how easily you will slide when turning. The stiffer you keep getting it will also worsen snow handling but your dry cornering will be amazing. Adjustables would be ideal but expensive. I would imagine a sway bar would help traction in the snow since they are keeping the car more balanced through a corner.

I have some wiedstein(sp?) wintrac on there now, but I slide real easy when taking corners hard on wet pavement. So I don't know if these will be so great in the snow. all I have are stock rims, so I dont have extra wheels to put snow tires on.

sway bar upgrades will hurt snow driving more than strut tower braces...the strut tower bars mainly keep the suspension alignment consistent which yields better turn in since the towers don't flex as much and the same amount of tire contact patch is maintained. Sway bars on the other hand will reduce body roll during turns and for snow driving you may want that roll to absorb transient movement to alleviate the cars tendency to slide the rear out. tires are most important though!! stock wheels and snow tires will make you happy and safe
