There are several approaches to every marketing situation - perhaps Brembo is trying to keep their product exclusive, and their reputation intact.

The strategy of moving downmarket with lower costs and higher volumes is not always a successful long term strategy.

Would these Wilwood 4 piston rears be a good alternative to the 2 piston Brembos? At 795.00 you could probably upgrade the rotors and still be around the Brembo price.

the only thing bad about them is they need to be rebuilt once a year or so but worth the money

If you want to talk about ripoff, how about Stoptech's $200 extra for red calipers (over the black ones)
