Brakes! Finally making a move

2000 GT Wagon

OK, so I am really trying to make sure I don't run into any problems with my minor brake upgrade and I am not looking to spend a ton of money. Everything is currently stock.

I plan on getting cryo'd rotors from frozenrotors.com. SS Lines for all around and Motul RBF 600 fluid and SpeedBleaders.

I still haven't determined what pads to get, currently leaning towards Bobcats. I don't want any noise but otherwise I want them to be better than stock. I can live with stock.

Any comments?

Thanks in advance,
Ned

Who are you going to get the SS lines from? They're a six-part set, unlike any other Subaru model, so you have to make sure you're getting the right ones. I have the Cobb lines on mine.

Cobb Street pads are pretty nice, easy on rotors too, but they are a little dusty. You may just look into getting their big brake upgrade for the Impreza RS, but with the Legacy SS lines.

It includes brackets, cryo'd rotors, cobb pads and SS lines for somewhere around $450. Their site isn't responding right now, or else i'd post a link.

Is this what you are referring to?

http://cobbtuning.com/impreza/brakes2.html

That would be great if not for my front brakes are ok. But the price including the other stuff might make it work.

So those brackets will work on my car? That's the kind of thing I have been having trouble figuring out. Why don't they have that package listed for the Legacy?

DLC: In the other post you installed WRX rotors, pads and caliper brackets. What caliper brackets are used? Does this mean I can get any front pads that are compatible with a WRX?

Yeah, that's the one i was referring to. That whole setup will bolt right in, and the only real difficult part would be installing the lines. That's more messy than anything. I've pressed Justin a few times as to why it's not an option in the Legacy section, but i never remember his response. I almost went that direction with my setup, but decided that i'd keep my eyes open for a cheap used WRX setup instead, because i already had the SS lines.

I got a whole used setup from an 02 WRX, and used everything but the calipers, because they're the same as the Legacy in the BE/BH years. Because of this, yes, you'd be able to use any WRX pads meant for the year of WRX you have. Note: they changed something in 04+ i think, so the pads are a little different, but i believe it'll still swap over.

I don't understand why these companies don't designate this stuff for our cars. It's driving me nuts. I'm not that technical and I hear that things will work but no verification, except for you.

I would do the Cobb if my fronts weren't in good shape. So I am going to get the Goodridge line kit, Cryo'd rear rotors, Speedbleaders, and either Cobb or Bobcat pads for front and back.

Thanks again!

Trey is a huge Legacy fan, and would have more products for them if it weren't for the success of the WRX. The Legacy is a bit neglected, but i'm doing my best to let them know that we're still here and wanting parts.
