brake pedal floor brace?
A friend of mine was talking the other day about seeing some sort of floor brace (maybe firewall brace?) for the WRX. He said there was some mention of pedal flex (a soft feeling pedal) being eliminated. I know the pedal feel with my stock WRX brakes is not the greatest, anyone know anything about this? Is there any truth to it?

My brakes are heavily modded, and it would be difficult to say which mod was 'best'.
I would install SS lines, Motul RBF600 fluid, good pads, and UHP or MAX performance tires, an then see if you need more 'feel' in the brakes.
The bracket is the last bit in the brake system that I would add.
The bracket I have installed is at least 2 years old and if it(the bracket kit, and instructions) is unchanged, it requires a good bit of mechanical ability and skill to install properly.
I am a mechanic, and it was a pain to install. I had to fab a shim and elongate 2 of the bracket holes in order for it to fit properly, without distorting the strut tower...this was after throwing the NFG instructions away...
It is not, IMHO, a novice install and not worth doing until the rest of the system's weakness have been addressed first.

Uncle Scotty, would you be at all interested in a small run of the shims you made for your bracket? There's always people interested in adding this brace so it may be worth the effort.
Certainly a wonderful service for the aftermarket Subaru community.

OK...
The shim was easy...the rest was the beotch....
Go to: http://mikeegan.stormpages.com/index.html
Then to 2002 Subaru WRX....and scroll down to the 'Wheels, brakes, and suspension" and click on "MRT Master cylinder bracket"...
If we are at the same place....then....In the 3rd pic down....you will see the red bracket sitting on top of a washing machine...
On the right side of the bracket(as looking at the pic) there is a short flange with 2 holes. This is the flange that I shimmed, and the shim should fit the side of the bracket, between it and the strut tower(see pic linked in following post). IIRC it, the shim, was 1"x1 1/2" or just a bit larger. I used some .125" 2024-T3(aluminum) sheet I took from the scrap bin where I worked at the time.
These two holes in the red bracket may(will) needed to be enlarged as well, amount of enlargement TBD/vehicle. The lower hole required only slight enlargement. I used a dremel and rotary file.
In the next pic down(the 4th pic down)...you can see that the bracket won't quite mate to the strut tower...hence the need for the shim in this place.
I did not re-use the lower piece of the fuel filter bracket, which is a stand-off for the throttle cable or a wire bundle...I ziptied it to something else.
When installing the bracket, put the rear two(the ones toward the rear of the car) screws in so that you can see where your bracket may have to be 'adjusted' in regards to enlarging the holes. Once you get the holes in the bracket figured out, then you can drill the shim to match.
Use a little adhesive of some sort to hold the shim to the bracket during installation, trust me, use some
...I used some silicone adhesive.
It took me the better part of an afternoon to do this install, and I had tried to install it before and knew what I needed to do.....It really is a PITA to do right....I would NOT do this one gratis for anyone...this is a $100 job....If I had to choose to do this install or an up-pipe, I'd be all over the up-pipe.
Have fun, and if ya need any more pointers, lemme know....
