You can use either. Dot 4 is higher performance. Just don't use Dot 5 thats all....

Dot 5 is generally silicone based - the only people who really use it are those who have show cars (it won't damage paint like a normal brake fluid, but it's also immiscible with water, so the water tends to pool, then form steam when the brakes heat up, resulting in a very mushy pedal and decreased brake performance) - the dot 5.1 oils are not silicone based, so you can use them.

essentially, the higher the dot rating, the higher the wet and dry boiling points.

what DOT rating fluid comes in the wrx from the factory? 3? Is it bad to mix DOT 3 with DOT 4? Would a big brake kit benefit more from DOT 4 fluid or DOT3?

you're going to use DOT4. either ATE Super Blue or Motul RBF600 is what i'd go with. ATE has a lower boiling point, but with the stoptechs you bought, that shouldn't be much of an issue. i've got a spare can of ATE in my garage.

For the STi brakes what brake fluid would you guys recomend? And where would I go to get my brakes bled and te fluid put in? Can i just take it to the dealer?
