any problems with Stoptech BBK???
Hey
I am looking for a BBK for WRX sedan, and Stoptech is fairly priced and got a lot of good reviews.
However I want to know if anyone had any problems with the Stoptechs - and what were the problems caused by. Incorrect installs, etc.
cheers

I installed mine about 2-3 weeks ago, and I absolutely LOVE them!!!! I have not had any problems with them at all....and during the install, I had some very technical questions, and the StopTech Customer service folks (Matt Weiss in particular) was very knowledgable, and was able to answer ALL of my questions with exacting details that I would have expected from a technical standpoint. I would not have purchased any other BBK after dealing with the StopTech folks. The Stand behind their product 110%, and will do whatever it takes to make the customer happy.
After installing the BBK I did, (and you will) notice some rather "unusual" new sounds relating to the BBK, but I consulted with Matt, and he assured me that it is 100% normal and nothing to be alarmed about. These sounds are caused from a more solid brake caliper, as opposed to the "floating" stock calipers of the WRX, and a slight flexing of the upright, which is actually preferred on most race cars.

DieselClown, do you plan on doing fronts and rears or just fronts?
If you do rears, you'll either need an R180 rear diff/knuckle assembly or an adaptor that will allow you to bolt those rear brakes onto the WRX backing plates.
If you do the front only, you will be increasing your stopping distances due to the huge increase in front brake torque and the fact that rear brake torque stays the same. Basically, you'd be shifting brake balance very far to the front, even though we have shown that the WRX system performs best at a front to rear balance very close to stock. I can calculate the percentage increase in front brake torque if you'd prefer, but it is a large number; I can tell you that without doing any calculations.
Let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Tim Kelsch

We have installed numerous Stoptech BBKs and all of our customers have been more than happy with them. When I find the time, I'm about to install a set on my own personal car. If you have the chance, you are more than welcome to stop by the shop, I'd be more than happy to show you a set.

I have them on the wrx plus my04!
And i really love them!!!!!
Only problem is that there aren't upgrade rotors for the rear!
Because i have a european model(belgium) and have the 11.4" rotors at the back the usdm wrx has the 10.3" rotors at the back...

Thanks for the kind words Soren. MPJ is an authorized reseller of all StopTech products, and has done great work from us in the past so if you're thinking about a reputable shop to have your new BBK, or any new part, installed at, I can certainly recommend them.
subyke555, I'm very glad to hear that you are enjoying your new Big Brake Upgrade.
I do apologize that we are having trouble sourcing the larger 290x18mm vented rear rotors that come on the non-US models of the WRX, but now that they're finally coming to our shores on the Legacy GT it should only be a matter of time.

i only skimmed the other replies, but i would like to make one point
a lot of my buddies who track their cars numerous times during the season and have stop tech's have the complaint that they have to pump their brakes in order for them to work properly

Anyhow, please ask your friends who are having anything less than excellent performance from their StopTech parts to contact us as soon as possible. We have people whose job it is to permanently fix any problems that these people may be having. The problems that your friends are having sound like they could be a couple of things, and to start offering suggestions without hearing the specifics of each customer's problems would be premature.
We have recently discovered, through the help of a customer/member of this board, that there is a new fix for the knockback symptoms that a very small percentage of our WRX customers have complained of.
I would like to make it clear that the fix doesn't even involve our brake kit, it's an adjustment to the factory Subaru parts back within their specified range.
I'm sorry to be so vague, but this particular adjustment is one that can cause serious problems if it's done incorrectly so we need to speak with each individual customer to make sure they understand what needs to be done.
Daredevil, again please ask your friends to contact us if they are interested in restoring the performance of their brake systems to more optimal levels. We are here to help.

Thanks,

tim could you please pm me the info on the fix for knockback. on my wrx i'm getting lots of it, brakes are great if i dont turn but once after a hard turn i need to pump the peddle once to get the peddle back to normal feel, otherwise i need to push about 1/2 way until it engages normally. My pads are pretty much gone so that could be an issue, might just replace them and see how it goes.
