but do you have an aftermarket short-shifter? when my first and second gear synchro's when out they (coolest subaru dealer evAr) told me it was due to my short-shifter. and told me to take it out and they'll repair 'em under warranty. and i think soon after that i heard they got audited for doing repairs under warranty when they weren't or some shiet like that.

Do the only thing you can do take it to a friendly subaru dealer. I'm sure they exist people have said so. Request a place in your area forum for a good place to take it to

where are you located? i read on here a while ago that mpj performance was doing ra gearset installs pretty cheap. I would contact them. see how much they charge. Also ask the dealer what a tranny swap pays in hours. Shop labor X hours + ra gearset = ? It may be a better way to go. You could also have someone else do the tranny swap it would be cheaper.

if its not the factory option short shifter, you may get the short end of the stick in that warranty.

good luck in finding a nice dealership, you can do it!

I absolutley understand. You said that if they thinks it's abuse after they tear the tranny apart it will basically cost $1800. The $850 is irrelevent. I would say that since you have no mods other than the factory short shifter it may be worth the chance. But $1800 from the dealer can get you nothing but a stock tranny. I say check out mpj. I am not form Cali but from what i have seen on here they are very reputable and reasonably priced. They mpj guys post quite frequently. I know when my tranny goes i will give them a call. Good luck.

If you have NO engine mods bring it in. I have the same problem...clutch all the way in but 1st grinds occasionally. I have about 40k+ miles but my car is nowhere near stock in any aspect (performance/handling/looks/etc...) and I know they'll pull anything out of their *** to charge me full price and make a couple bucks.
