When to change timing belt?

I know it is supposed to be changed @ 105k, but I am wondering if it can be pushed longer or if that is a really bad idea- has anyone had one break before? Its a 02 WRX btw. Thanks

well....had mine done at 60k.

Reason: Bought the car used. JDM land does there timing belts at 100k kilometers (60k miles = almost 100k Kilometers) so I did it to be safe.

The old belt looked awesome when it came out. No cracking, no missing teeth. But still wanted to replace it (Since it was out)

Depending on how you drive...you may be able to "stretch" it, but if you can get it done when it is advised, that is of course recommended.

Problem is...if you push it for too long, and it happens to go...you will end up spending more to fix/replace your motor than what it would have cost to replace the timing belt in the first place.

Typically I have all service done on time, however this is a friends car-which they don't drive like an old ladies car :wink . I was just doing a little research for them. Thanks and I will check see if averyone agrees waiting is not wise.
