What should I look for or stay away from?
Hey guys,
My mom wants to get rid of her safari minivan and get a used subaru.
She's looking to spend approx $10-12k canadian which is about $8-10k usd.
What's out there for that price?
What should I look for and what should I stay away from?
I found this 1997 Legacy GT for $11k canadian, how are they for reliability? I don't even know the specs on them, could you guys enlighten me?

depending on the mileage- the book value can be anywhere from 5-8 thousand.
if the mileage is low hence the price. subarus generally are pretty reliable considering that the previous owner did routine maintenance. i would ask if the timing belt was changed along with all tranny/diff fluids. at that year check all boots to make sure of any additional costs.
from the pic you posted it looks very clean. i suggest spending the small fee to join carfax. its definitely worth the money when you are shopping for a car. it will tell you a lot about the car in question.
as far as recalls i only saw THIS
