What to do if your A/C dies?

I've got black leather and a busted A/C (2 years now), as long as I drive over 40mph, and a never visit the South again, ever, it's fine.

The recharge cans speak of have a gauge on them. With directions on how to hook them up. The Bug-eyes have had a well-known history for A/C issues. If you get the recharge can and you still have lots of pressure, it's a different kind of problem. In addition, it is off to the dealer you go.

If you really want to fix it properly take it to a shop that does AC work. There is more to it than just sticking a can from the store on the valve and pumping it in.
In normal use the system should not lose refrigerant, if that is the problem you have a leak someplace that needs to be diagnosed and repaired. Also proper recharging requires a full set of gauges (not just the single crappy gauge that comes with the small cans) as well as a vaccum pump to pump down the system before charging.

I wouldn't bother trying to recharge your system at home. Your system has a leak. Take it to the dealer or a/c specialist that is qualified to responsibly capture the remaining (if any) refrigerant when they open the system. They will inspect the components for leaks and advise you on what it takes to fix it.

My car has 79,000+ miles on it and my a/c still works fine on 100 degree days here in Sacramento. I haven't required any servicing other than a belt change. Will still blow cold air at 48 to 50 degrees out the vents when car is in motion.

As stated above ^
Have it checked by an A/C person so you get to keep the charge you'll pay for. Our A/C guy usually replaces the Schraeder valve most often as they are bad on alot of subys. We do replace compressors from time to time, so who knows. We find that alot of people burn there compressors out quick by running the defroster all the time (hence the a/c is on).

Good luck

NEVER use that **** from Kragen. my uncle does HVAC systems (just worked on my car today for A/C) The problem is that you still have air in the system and you run the risk of really screwing it up. You HAVE to use an vacuum to pull all of it out and then re-charge it. Where are you located? My uncle lives in Tracy and for a small fee might be able to find it. We charged my system with nitrogen at like 200psi and used a detection to find leaks. Someone put a front strut in my car and bent the AC line.

Do you mean a strut tower brace? If so, some brands of strut tower braces and aftermarket intercoolers interfere with hard a/c lines near the firewall, so some folks just bend them out of the way. The problem is that the lines can end up cracking as a result of the tension put on them over time.

Exactly, what had happened was that the low side of the a/c lines (the large AC line in back of the intercooler) was slightly bent near the inlet to the evaporater in the firewall. The O-rings that were there didn't look to be stock ones since they are usually blue or green and these were black (maybe the previous owner did this before) and the slightest angle or difference in o-rings makes a big difference.

We fixed it with thicker o-rings and are hoping that it works. I took the strut tower off for now and I'm going to get a different one. I was thinking SPT, does anyone know which ones will clear the A/C line?
