VIP Partners program...

I am getting ready to purchase an '05 Legacy GT through the VIP Partners program. My wife's professional organization qualifies.

Can someone who has purchased a car through this program explain the steps and how it works? How long did it take from requesting the forms to getting your car? Anything to watch out for?

I special ordered my car over the phone, telling the dealer that I have VIP form.
Fast forward 7 weeks.
The week before the car got to my dealer, I requested my VIP form online, got it in the mail in 3 days.
Brought the form in, paid invoice price for car. I provided my own financing, so I was done with all the paperwork in 10 minutes.
Basically the form replaces 5 hours of price haggling.

Thanks! Is there any time limit from when you receive the form to when you call the dealer to order your car? Do you get the options at invoice cost too?

The form has a 45 day limit. When I first ordered, the dealer told me he doesn't need the form until I sign for the car, hence I was able to do it over the phone. Which is also why I waited until 1 week before the scheduled arrival date to request my form. You dealer might work differently though. My dealer hardly glanced at the form ... it could've been last year's and he didn't seem to care

You do get all the options at invoice price too.

Is that program good for any model or do some models not qualify... for instance, would the STi be sold at invoice with the VIP program? How do you get the VIP program?

The VIP program applies to any Subaru model, including the STi. You need to be a member of an organization that Subaru supports to take part in the program. For example, the International Mountain Biking Association participates, and a membership only costs $25. You must be a member for 6 months before you can use the VIP forms. http://www.imba.com

I used this because we had been part of IMBA organization for more thena a few years and all you do is see if you qualify and you get dealer invoice on the car no matter what. We got the forms within 2 days of qualifying.
