URGENT!! Need opinions on price!
OK, so here is the deal. Ihave found an 04 WRX sedan in white with the Premium pkg., short throw shifter, carbon fiber, upgraded stereo with sub, and armrest ext. for $22,999. The only catch is that it is a demo with 5400 miles. Any opinions out there on what I should do? I am somewhat shaky on the idea of buying a demo.
Thanks,
Justin

It's a killer price, but just remember that those 5400 miles are probably full of people red-lining it, salesmen abusing it, people who don't know how to use a clutch, and just about any other yokel that wants to try to drive it. IIRC, the waranty doesn't start untill someone wbuy sthe car, so you'll still have plenty of time for something to break. But, a car without a proper break-in might not show signs of it for sometime. I know if it were me, and it's not, I would hold out. If you really want the premium package, then this is the best price I've seen so far. Dealers out here are offering me that price on a base model WRX with no real options.

I'd pass on this demo WRX. That's 5400 miles of hard driving without proper engine break-in or even a couple minutes to warm up before prospective 'buyers' took the car out and thrashed the heck out of it.

Fairly recently, I got dealer quotes via e-mail from Subaru.com. If you look at the site you will see how to request quotes from individual dealers. This saves the hassle of driving or calling around and hearing some of them tell you to, "call me back if you get a lower quote from another dealer and I'll see what I can do." I like to get their best price and then work from there. There are other threads in this forum that go over the procedure of car buying (price, financing, etc.).
Also, ask around in your regional forum on i-Club (Tri-State?) to see where other members bought their cars, and if they are happy with their dealerships (sales and service).

Go to www.edmunds.com and you can do research on the car you're interested in, then fill out your zip and select dealers in your area to request quotes from.
1. Generally if you receive a quote from a dealer, the first quote you receive from the internet department will be lower than the first quote from some sales guy on the floor.
2. Once you submit the quote request, you wait for dealers to call you. Just sit back and chill. When you get a dealer on the phone, then you can ask them about their inventory, if they have what you want, what they want for it, and bargain with them over the phone. If you choose, you can do most of the entire deal over the phone, then when you go in to the dealer, you just sign and go home with your new car.
That's basically what I did - I did my deal in person though, but it was REALLY easy. I was able to get a quote from multiple dealers WITHOUT having to drive all over town to them. Then I got to pick the lowest one, set up an appointment, go in, drive the car I wanted and do the deal. It was pretty nice.

Will be looking for one in the same area pretty soon. I bought a WRX in '02 from Manfredi/Staten Island Subaru and got a Very good deal. I also remember Flemington Subaru in New Jersey having really good prices, but I don't know who has the lowest prices anymore. Let me know what you find out!!!
