I haven't had problems myself about trannies, but this would probably get a better thread in the right forum... so if an admin could please move this thing there.

But it's a damn shame to blow a tranny at 16.5k....

True True

They need to find a good way in figuring out if it was abused or not abused, and have hard evidence on their side before they pull the "you abused it" trick. Because if their is evidence of abuse it's logical that you will have to pay for it. I guess what I'm saying is that subaru needs to make more of an effort in figuring out these situations and to have reasoning and guidelines readily availible to the owner so they can make him or her understand

I agree with the whole considering service before buying a car thing. My family has been honda people for the longest time. We have started to shy away from them because the dealerships we've been to are not nice, and they have been disrespectful to me. Luckily my subie dealership has been great to me my mom and our other friends. She herself because of the experience we've had with service is considering herself to buy a subaru forester to replace her nissan xterra instead of a honda crv or something else. Subaru does deffinetly need to do something about this.

Well, on a positive note, the 05 model 5-speeds are going to have dual syncros in the tranny instead of single. Thats going to help, but only if you have an 05 or you have the tranny replaced.

it has nothing to do with the syncros, its the caseflex that breaks the WRX trannys

Car Info: Sold My Stage 4+ Wa-Goon :(
I laugh at all of this.. i have roughly 65k on my wrx and it is driven hard every single Fin day.. i've had the equivelant of a ultimate racing stage 5 kit (with fmic, T3/T04E, 785cc, etc) for the past 6 months as well..

I really think it all depends how you drive really.. if you drive it like you are part of the car, like your arm is part of the transmission and your feet are in tune to make a beautiful note of subaru music... then and only then you won't have problems.. if you drive it hard and just smack the gears around not waiting for that 'notch-in' then well.. yeah.. just look above..

Just my two cents, the car has the stock drivetrain, second oem clutch (30k+ on it now, blew the first one up). And its putting down a good deal more power than most street driven wagons out there.

I personally only had my car for 2 months and (knock on wood) had nothing but good experience with my dealler. I had the air box ordered and put in since it was missing free of charge and when I came in with my soft clutch problem that I couldn't reproduce the service manager offered to change my clutch under TSB eventhough I had no jutter and they did. The point is maybe try a different dealer.

Right on! I think that a lot of dealers are going to claim abuse right off the bat. They hate to do warranty work becuse they get screwed on it pretty badly. I think if you tell them your going to SOA they may back off. They just try to test people. Some people fight and some just bite the bullet. They do it on purpose. I think that in some situations SOA is more at fault than the dealer because if SOA made it eaiser for their dealers to do warranty the dealers would do more for their customers. Its a bad situation all the way around. I have a question. Did you buy your car new? If you bought it new thats good. You have been the only person to drive it. If you bought it used it may have had the crap ran out of it by the previous owner. Just a thought. Good luck man. I also say if you end up having to pay for the whole thing, and you need a new tranny you might consider getting one that has a better gearset, change the tranny mount to the sti as well. I figure if it's gonna cost you money you might as well upgrade, of you can afford it of course.
