STI as a daily driver

I am close to getting an STI. I just question weather it make s a good daily driver. I here the Breaks rotors are way exspensive to replace same with pads. Poor gas Milage. The fact that you would need another set of rims for snow tires. My RS is great but I need more speed. Just wanted to know what some STI owners have experienced.

Great car. I love it. Just fine as a daily driver. How often do you replace the rotors on your car anyway. Mileage is OK but isn't a honda.

If you plan to drive on ice or snow fairly regularly (your Profile doesn't state a location), the STi's standard Bridgestones will not do. They are dry weather tires, only. If you replace them with all-seasons, you should be okay under most conditions. Just have them mounted on the factory alloys or go aftermarket for the winter tires.

I live in snowbelt of Ohio, I love to drive in the snow! My RS is awsume in the snow! I just want an STI and can't keep both. I am on my 3rd set of rotors. I keep one set for autoX/track days and one for street. Just had to replace one set as they warped and tis is my worry about the STI I have heard that the rotors for the STI are like $1000 a set. Thanks

I also considered the STI for a daily driver, however I wondered about the wisdom of putting 20K mi/yr for commuting on such a nice machine. Also I wondered if that much horsepower would make it more dangerous in the snow.

Thanks for the input. Informative. I would think that with snow tires one the car an STI would be a great snow car. When I drive my RS in heavy snow I feel like I have to spin the tires to mantain control while inputting opposite lock. With the added power I would think I could carry more speed through a given turn. Not that this would make for a safer ride just more in control. I like to be sideways! Though I would worry about over doing it in a car as nice as an STI.
I drive my STi as a daily driver. I am from Mich, so I threw some Goodyear all season rubber on for the winter. Let me tell you, driving the STi in the snow is a blast! Comin up to a turn put dccd in 35/65, then coming out switch to 50/50. A super easy controlled slide. Didnt get stuck at all with it this winter. Got stuck twice with my 03 WRX the winter before. Here is a pic.

Looks like fun! I think I will go with a more aggressive snowtire. The extra bite from all Seasons made a huge differance on my RS. I have read in the past that 50/50 was the way to go on snow, I think it helped keep the car stable slowing down. Either way I can't wait to try it out.

here in hawaii (oahu) we'll never really deal with snow-unless we go to the mountains of Mauna Kea
i had a customer ask me about ice in the intercooler- ever had that happen?
Ive had snow on it. Heard of putting ice bags on it before 1/4 mile runs to cool it off. Never had a problem with ice messin up the i/c. I was in Hawaii last christmass, I am jealous of you! That place is soo sweeet.

what if you get sleet one morning? ever had that? i know that water needs to be "restrained" in order to expand its "container"(IC) since water doesn't collect in the intercooler its not entirely possible, right?
Never had any probs with water frezzing on the i/c. For the I/C waster spray resivior, I left it half full and when it froze over the winter there was room for it to expand and not crack the tank. Just got a radio put in today to make it a better daily driver.
