Question Steering pump

How do you know if the steering pump is bad? When my car is cold, it works just fine but when it heats up, no power steering below ~2500 RPMs. I replaced the belts but still the same problem. I was looking at some info on the WRX steering pump and I found out that it has a special pressure release valve to limit hp loss when you are going in a straight line. Has anyone ever heard of this going bad?

Have you ever done donuts with your car while holding the wheel at full lock? This is the usual cause of power steering pump failure, they rarely go bad on their own.
