Spec B

I'm tempted to trade in my '02 WRX, Cobb Stage 2 for a LGT Spec B and upgrade to Cobb stage 2 or 2.5.

Other option might be STI, but, I would rather have a bit more interior room (kids), and the stealth appearance of the Spec B.

Any comments?

Thinking Aloud

I guess I'm just wondering how the Spec. B handles in comparison to the STI and standard LGT.

I've only been in a test drive in a Spec. B with 10 miles on it, so I haven't really gotten to test its limits.

From what I understand the Spec B is more of a marketing thing, for the price you could do the suspension yourself and come up with something that would handle better and have money left.

Yeah, I don't doubt it, but, as the Spec B is "special," and a limited production, might it not hold some additional resale value?

Other stuff with Spec. B: 18" wheels, brick red leather seats, navigation system, not sure if sound system is different from standard LGT.

Well, whats upgraded in the suspension is upgraded springs and shocks, 18" wheels with RE050 tires and aluminum control arms.

All in all, I would assume it handles better, but not better then a stock 05 or 06 STi. I haven't yet had a chance to drive a spec B in anger, so I can't really tell you exactly what the limits would be.

The sound system is the same. Otherwise your list is nearly complete. The exterior color is unique to the spec B. The regular silver is a little lighter.

Nav map, or ECU map? Cause, I believe it makes the same power as the regular GT.

My plan would be to modify it to a Cobb Stage 2, anyway.

I'd skip on the Spec B and build your own car that would out-perform the Spec B for cheaper. I think the Spec B looks nice with its brick-red seats and the nice wheels, but it really doesn't offer much over the standard LGT, aside from some suspension components that surely wouldn't cost you that much to purchase on your own.....

It is the only way to get the Subaru Nav system with a manual transmission though.

Do what we all did before there were NAV systems. Buy a map.

If a NAV system is really necessary you can get a portable one at the Best Buy.

Thanks. I pondered and ended up getting an 05 LGT MT LTD wagon for about $10K less than the Spec. B. Great car, now with new wheels, Blizzak LM-22s for winter, performance gauge pack, upgraded stereo with sub., and, for now, Cobb stage I, to be followed by UP/DP etc., Ion springs, TDC tuning maps...

Oh personally, I agree. I don't need/want the nav.

But some people like the Nav system.
