Spark Plugs- Pricing for dealership to replace?
I have a 2002 WRX and I need to put some new spark plugs in. I was wondering what you guys thought would be the best plug to purchase and where I could get it from.
I was suprised to see that they reccomend changing your plugs at 30K miles. Wht the heck kind of spark plug does the car come with?
Let me know
Thanks

every car manual recommends changing the spark plugs at 30,000 or 3 years if you drive stop and go driving or other conditions. Basically if you drive on the highway and only the highway then you can wait till 60,00 I think.
I changed mine a 45k and i replaced the stock plugs with denso iridium plugs, and i bought them off of ebay, have not had any problems, my car is stock.. just make sure you get the ones that fit the WRX for stock set up
The service schedule for the WRX recommends a 60K interval for the plugs, not 30K. You can change them sooner but if your car is stock there is no reason to do so. Also unless it's modified the OEM NGK platinums are just fine.

Nope. GO back and re-read your manual and maintance booklet. IT recomends the plugs be changed every 30K miles. I agree that seems like a short time but that is what it says.
02 service schedule from the Subaru website-
http://www.subaru.com/owners/schedul...=SCHEDULE_2002
Click the link at the bottom for the Federal service schedule, you'll see that turbo and 3.0 models have a 60K interval for the plugs, others are 30K.
The schedule for CA spec vehicles does have only a 30K interval, perhaps you are somehow looking at that or maybe your car was originally from CA?

IF you own a subaru go to www.mysubaru.com and sign in. On the schedule in there it states that you need to replace spark plugs at 30K miles.
The maintenance schedule that came with my car when I bought it new (02 WRX) specifies 60K plug replacement as does the Federal maintenance schedule I linked to above. Perhaps Subaru has made some changes to their recommendations for certain conditions.
FYI I did actually change mine at 30K just for the hell of it and they came out looking almost new. I'm now at 70K and don't plan to change them again anytime soon, I'll probably follow the 60K interval and do it at 90K.
As for that quote to do the job that's a lot of coin for something you could potentially do yourself with the proper tools (a good spark plug socket, assorted extensions and maybe a universal). The access is a bit tight but you should be able to do it in an hour or less. If you're not mechanically inclined or just don't want to DIY, look around for a private local shop that works on Subarus, chances are they will do it for less than the dealer.
