Shopping for a 2.5RS
I'm new to this site and to the world of Subarus. I'm looking to buy a 98 RS with 81K on it. What should I be looking for in term s of engine condition, ride, ect. to make sure that I'm not buying junk? Are there years that I should stay away from, or are they all pretty reliable? Your help is appriceated. Thanks.

The 98 and 99 models have a headgasket problem that is a very expensive repair. You might want to see if that has been taken care of. Other than that, they are solid cars. If it matters to you, the 98 and 99 models also lack rear limited slip. The 00 and 01 models have them.

They also go through wheel bearings.
If a kid owned the car, forget it. If adult owned, head gaskets and wheel bearings will probably be your only worry, besides normal maintenance that is.

I have a 98rs for u
I have a 98 2.5rs with a 99 body kit. its all black, exhaust, short shifter, carbon fiber dash, interior sound system, with only 77,000 miles on the car. I blew my engine though and am selling as is for only 3000. let me know if u are interested
private party vs dealer
it depends quite a bit on whether you're looking at private party or at a dealer. A nice low miles 01 RS would probably go between 11-13. You may be able to find one a little cheaper, but too much cheaper than that, and I would be nervous that something is wrong. If I had an 01 with 60 that was clean, I would probably list price it at $12,995, and go from there
