I think you can also purchase a tool from your local auto supply store to fix the fins on the intercooler. I know they make them for radiators.. they kind of look like a comb, and they have different spacing between the teeth depending upon how may fins per inch your application is. The screen that the other fellas suggested is the way to go for prevention. I was getting the same thing on my 04 until I put a screen in the scoop to catch pebbles.

I have one of those combs. I got it just for the IC but it won't work The material between the tubes aren't really fins that parallel each other. The material is in sort of an S pattern top to bottom. There is no way to "comb" it. There is another tool with flat ends but I didn't get one of those. I end up using a tooth pick.
