reset ecu for higher octane fuel?

ok I had been using regular fuel (86 octane i think?) for a while and then switched over to 91.. I recall hearing somewhere that you need to reset your ecu by disconnecting the negative terminal of your battery for a few minutes and then putting it back on so the ecu will 'adjust' to the new octane level... is this true??

Or, you can do nothing. The ECU is constantly "learning" and will adjust to the higher octane fuel as you drive. Resetting will clear out the adaptive cells and return them to their default settings, forcing the learning process to start over. Whether you reset it or not, it will eventually end up the same after enough driving.

Angry my g/f somehow accidentally put in 87 regular, full tank!

yes, i was pissed! i drive it and the engine was pinging like a ****. i go straight to a 76 gas station and put in half tank 100 octane. that was expensive. i took it easy for a couple miles and then gradually getting on it listening for knock. it seemed to go away so i start going wot. ecu started learning i guess and gave some timing because the car started pulling harder.

i'll prolly disconnect the battery tomorrow and beat on it for good measure. actually, i should pull the plugs to see how bad the det. was first.
