A solution to the problematic lack of higher octane gas

Has anyone wonderd why there is 89 octane gas? Who the hell uses 89 other than cheap *** people who don't want to put 91 in there? Also, I think people using 87 could easily get by with 85. Don't you?

If I were govenor It'd be 85 and 94!

Now what would really be cool... since mixing octanes worked really well and you even get a bit higher than average combined octane when you mix, why not have just two fat tanks of 85 and 94. Then, on the pump is one nozzle and a dial where you select an octane rating. Some computerized gadget in the pump controls a set of internal pumps or nozzles to formulate the selected octane.

Don't wake me ... I'm loving this dream.

Or instead of having such a wide gap, let's just go with 2 grades, 87 and 93. I don't know if it's linear/additive, but take those 2 octane points from 89 (you're right, it's worthless) and stuff 'em into 91

Thanks ldivinag for the sight info. I've also heard of this some time back but was scared of trying it. My level of confidence has just gone up.
