Protocol for using clay bars?

I picked up the Mother's clay bar / wax kit and am gonna finally wax my ride over the weekend.

Having never used a clay bar, is there anything that I need to be mindful of when applying it to my car?

Thanks

OK.. a clay bar is more or less just a polishing compound stuck into a nice covient bar. They even come in the same flavors as your normal polishers like aggressive, medium, or mild.. It basically trys to smooth out the surface of the paint by rubbing off the microscopic hills and valleys to give it that perfect glass smooth surface everyone seems to love.

I wouldn't use it on a new car on the note that you prolly won't see a difference unless you have mild swirls or something. Two becuase i'm not familiar of the effect on clear coat (really shouldn't hurt it though).

How to use it? When you claybar you absolutley must have a dirt free surface and plenty of lubricant. You can use soap and water as a lube if needed. Oh and be gentle its not like you need to put a hole lot of pressure while buffing the thing

Just my .02

if you got chips in your paint bro rubbing it down will only make it worse. Fetch yourself some matching color touch up at your dealer or if you dare at a local autostore (its like a lil pen or a nail brush) then just lighty dab the spots you got chips on (clean surface). Then buff it down to smooth finish

dub,

i used to have a detailing business, and this is one of my tips.
clay bars are excellent to remove fallout on your paint.
make sure you have a lubricant(which does come with the mothers pack)
try this. results are instantly seen.
while wet claybar one half of the hood. when done spray the hood. you will see the difference.
my only comment is to make sure you wax or polish your car after!
hope that helps

aloha

Oh yeah *slaps forehead* i always forget the stuff the immediately comes after

While your doing this btw check for crap that gets on the bar that you have been rubbing off. When it gets a lil dirty on the sider your rubbing with kneed the clay bar for a clean surface to rub with. Though your instructions with the bar should tell you that
