Oil Change / Warranty Question

I was wondering what type of oil the dealership uses and if it's worth going to there or to some other oil change place because the dealerships oil change is pretty pricey. Does getting it changed elsewhere cause potential warranty issues in the future? Thanks

As long as it is documented properly that the oil changes were performed within acceptable time periods you should be fine.

There is another user on here (onemanarmy) I think that is having major warranty issues right now. You might want to hit him up.

They don't normally use synthetic. Even if you specifically request it, the local dealer here argues that you don't need synthetic.

Not sure of the brand but the weight is either 5w30 or 10w30.

Wherever you go, make sure to keep dated receipts of the parts (and labour if applicable). Any warranty case will be stronger if you can show that you paid for regular maintennance.

While my car was in warranty, I used to take in into the dealer for 7500, 15000 and 30,000 interval services. In addition, I used to change the oil halfway between the dealer visits. Now its outside warranty, its pretty much the same but I take it to an independant for the full services.

It doesn't matter what oil you use. Get it done wherever you want...do it yourself.

but keep ALL DOCUMENTATION regarding what oil you used, what filters you used, who did it and how many miles. I'm talking reciepts, photos, whatever you can think of because SOA WILL **** YOU OVER.

It is very likely that you will read a very detailed letter from me coming down on SOA on every single subaru board and likely many other non subaru boards in the very near future.

I am very unhappy right now and will likely be looking outside of subaru for my next vehicle....as I had planned to purchase as many as 2 new subarus in the next year or two.

KEEP ALL DOCUMENTATION.
