Need advice - looking to buy a 2002 + Impreza wagon-what to look out for ?

I've been seeing cars w/ 50K + miles on them, so basically I want to find out what problems, minor and major, these cars have w/ higher mileage on them. Trans? Engine? Brakes? Diffs? Clutch? Miscellaneous? If you could - list the problem and at what mileage occurred.

I know the importance of buying a non modded car, and vehicle maintenance and such - but I don't know the specifics and common problems of Subarus.

Any useful info is appreciated.

Please advise

The motors are pretty strong, these things don't make full power until they hit 100k miles on odometer. Transmissions have syncro problems, and the teeth on 02 wrx's are really fine and have a tendency to break.
Other than that, unless the car was severely beat on the dragstrip, the clutch should be good to 60-70k miles i'd say.

Are the '04+ Transmissions stronger than the '02-03?

what's the logic behind this? I've never heard this before.

There is some debate over whether they went with slightly wider gears after the 02 model year. However, if not driven well, any year WRX trans will break.
